Services for Faculty
With a valid I.D. card, faculty members may borrow books for a full semester. Faculty may renew materials an indefinite number of times if no "hold" has been placed on the item. Items may be renewed by phone at 970-351-2671 or through My Account on The Source library catalog.
Faculty may check out videotapes and DVDs for one week, with one renewal.
A faculty I.D. card can only be used by the faculty member to whom it has been issued. However, research assistants may check out materials from the library by special arrangement of the faculty member with the Access Services Department. Faculty members are held responsible for all materials borrowed on their faculty I.D.
An item not renewed or returned after 28 days past the due date is considered lost. A replacement fee of $80.00 per item will be sent to Accounts Receivable. If the lost item is returned to the Library within one year of being declared lost, the $80.00 will be refunded. Faculty with 10 or more lost items will have borrowing privileges withheld. Privileges will be restored upon satisfactory restitution.
Faculty may also take advantage of Interlibrary Loan services.
Many Colorado libraries will extend borrowing privileges to UNC faculty with a valid I.D. Check with the individual library in advance.
Reserve Services and Online Readings
Traditional Reserve materials can be books, articles, audiovisual materials, educational kits, or other high-use materials either from the Library’s circulating collection or owned by the professor or department. They are selected by faculty who designate a limited circulation time for the materials, in order to make them equally available to all class members. If an item needed for Reserve is checked out, library staff will recall it.
Please note that stickers and book pockets will be attached to personal materials for Reserve use. The Library assumes no responsibility for replacing personal materials should they be damaged or lost.
In addition to Traditional Reserve services, we offer an Electronic Reserve service. Electronic Reserve allows students to access course materials via the Internet.
Fill out a Reserve Form and bring it with your materials to the Access Services desk. If you have an electronic version of the material you can email the file/s to Michele Dezelick (email@example.com) or Sarah Vaughn (firstname.lastname@example.org). Please allow at least 48 hours for materials to be processed. All material must be accompanied by complete citation information.
Faculty who make arrangements to have photocopying charged to their department can check out a photocopy key for the Copy Center on the second floor of Michener Library. Contact the Copy Center at 351-2465 to make arrangements for departmental copying privileges.
Reference and Instructional Services personnel provide formal instruction in the use of the library to all teaching faculty and their classes. To schedule a general orientation to the library or a session on library materials for a subject area or assignment, fill out the Library Instruction Request Form or contact Instructional Services at 351-1529. The faculty member must attend the instruction session.
Each academic unit is assigned funds to expend on materials which support the curriculum. Materials will be cataloged and housed in the Libraries. Requests should be directed to the LIbrary Liaison for the academic unit, who will then forward all requests to the appropriate Subject Librarian. The Subject Librarian will review the requests and forward them to the Libraries' Acquisitions Department.
When many items arrive at the same time, there may be a delay between receipt of material and the time it is ready for the shelf. We can rush catalog these materials for your use, usually within 24 hours. To use this service, contact the Cataloging Department at 351-1544. Leave the author and title of your item, your name, and telephone number. You will be notified as soon as the item is available for your use.
