Authentication on Libraries' Computers
Authentication, or login, is required to use most computers in Michener and the Skinner Music Libraries, as well as other campus computer labs. This helps to ensure priority access for UNC affiliated patrons as well as security for the campus network.
Tips for use of authenticated computers:
- UNC students log in with a BearMail ID and password. To resolve problems, contact the Help Desk at 351-4357.
- Logging in will ensure that any private information that you enter will be inaccessible to the next person using the computer, as long as you remember to log out when finished.
- To temporarily lock the keyboard when you step away from the computer, press CTRL-ALT-DEL and select “k” for Lock.
- After 5 minutes of inactivity, a 90 second log out process will begin automatically (even if the keyboard is locked).
Please be aware of UNC’s computer use and privacy policies:
Open access, unauthenticated computers
A group of eight open access computers will continue to be available for non-UNC patrons and for UNC patrons who prefer to use a computer without the authentication requirement. The open access computers are restricted to use for class-related or research purposes, and UNC patrons continue to have priority for use.
