Services and Collection
The Reserve Desk, located at the Michener Library Circulation Desk, is open all hours the Library is open. The staff can be reached by telephone at 970-351-2671. The Skinner Music Library also maintains a Reserve collection.
The Reserve Collection provides convenient access to course materials selected by the faculty. Reserve allows many students to equally share class materials. The collection includes books, articles, audio and video recordings, educational kits and other items which are required for class assignments.
Electronic Reserve allows students to access course materials online. Readings selected by faculty are scanned and stored online, usually as PDF files, and can be viewed and printed by registered UNC students.
All materials in the Reserve collection, print and electronic, are listed by the requesting faculty member name and course number in the online list available through UNC Libraries online catalog (see links above).
Loan Periods for Traditional Reserve
Reserve materials circulate for a limited time period, determined by the professor. Loan periods are for two hours, four hours, one day, three days, or one week. Three Reserve items may be checked out to a patron at one time at Michener Library; six Reserve items may be checked out at one time at Skinner Music Library. A valid University I.D. is required to check out materials.
Patrons are notified by telephone, email, or mail when items are overdue.
2 or 4 hour loan period - $1.00 per hour per item, maximum of $35 per item
1, 3, or 7 day loan period - $5.00 per day per item, maximum of $35 per item
Material overdue for more than 7 days is considered lost and a replacement charge of $80.00 per item is assessed. If the item is returned within one year of the due date, a credit of $45.00 will be issued. There is a non-refundable $35.00 charge per item to cover late fines and processing costs.
