The Pride of the Rockies marching band gained prominence under the direction of music faculty member, Wayman Walker (1952-1976). Over the years, the organization sported marching uniforms that reflected the changing names of the school. |

In the 1950s, the Choral-Aires (right) traveled throughout Colorado as ambassadors for the college music program. The CSC Band (Pride of the Rockies) and other performing groups represented us as well. |

Music and teaching music were always important parts of the K-12 and the college curriculums. John R. Whiteman, one of the four teachers on the Normal School faculty, taught vocal music; he was the uncle of Paul Whiteman, the renowned jazz musician. |

President Howard Skinner had a long career in the School of Music before becoming President of the University in 1996. |

James DeForest Cline, Professor of Music 1922-49, composed several school songs. “Ah, Well I Remember” is the current school song. Several other faculty also contributed to the institutional repertory. |

The campus was the home to numerous radio stations over the years. Students have broadcast on stations KCBL, KLAB, KSRR, and KSRX among others. Several stations became commercial ventures; two still in operation are KFKA and KUNC. |
