INTRODUCTION

The collection development document was written over a period of eighteen months. In that time, all policies that had been written over a period of fifteen years were compiled and updated. During the period of compiling and rewriting, several experts who had previously written or worked on a particular policy were consulted. I would like to recognize Mary Alm, Kathy Earle, Sondra Hughes, Norman Savig and Patricia Wallace who worked or advised on different sections of this document.

Appendix A represents the University Archives document which I wrote and had approved in November, 1988. Appendix B is the subject conspectus representing the various curriculum disciplines covered by the University of Northern Colorado. The conspectus provides a subject narrative and outline of each discipline and level of collection strength. The conspectus is intended to be revised, as needed, when curriculum changes are made. The following librarians were responsible for reviewing and revising their subject areas: Kathy Earle, Lynne Fox, Arlene Greer, Charles Rhine, Dr. Frank Roberts, Norman Savig, Sue Schulze, and Lee Weston.

I would like to thank Gary Pitkin whose editing skills helped in the final writing of this document. June Rodarte deserves special thanks for her patience in typing and revising the document.
